Cannonball Roadtrip Part 1

Cannonball Roadtrip Part 1

Just got back from an epic week of road trips around the outback of Western Australia. The adventure started Tuesday night at a little out of the way place known as Melangata Station.

Melangata meeting ground

Melangata meeting ground is the camps kitchen and firepit site.

It was over 6 hours non-stop to get there from Perth along mostly highways and sealed roads, but became gravel near Yalgoo. The campground was as you'd expect from an outback location, and worth the thousand star rating. Morning came around and with the tour at 10 I had some time to occupy. A quick adventure around the station was in order. Opposite the camp ground was a few old buildings converted into accommodation. The shearers shed is a small room priced the same as the camp grounds, with a tin roof for and walls for protection. The cottage was a cute setup with a large bed and single in the corner best suited for a small family, and the glamp site was 3 bell tents each with their own layout.

Melangata Cottage

The Cottage was a cute space for a small family.

10 o'clock came around and it was time for the tour. Its not much compared to city architecture, but the late 1910's residence was still worth checking out. Jo, the host and resident showed us around and all the little secrets of the building. The rooms here had an outback luxury vibe with an appropriately themed dining space. Coffee and scones afterwards was a great way to learn a little more about the history and space. Time waits for no-one so I got going. It was about 120km back to Mount Magnet on dirt roads, and a short detour to the Dalgaranga Crater site made it almost 150kms, but it was good to be on tarmac again.
